The Zoldan Lab participated in Explore UT, an event meant to showcase the University of Texas at Austin’s education, research, and outreach. The lab members presented on the interaction of stem cells and biomaterials and how this research might be leveraged to create personalized stem cell therapies. Highlights included the exhibition of beating cardiomyocytes and a working cotton candy machine (to explain fiber extrusion).

Congratulations to Alicia and Cody for competing in the Austin Marathon/Half Marathon! Over half of our lab’s graduate students have now competed in at least a half marathon.

Yesterday, Alicia competed at Ironman Lake Tahoe, and finished in 11:15: 2nd in her age group, 7th in women’s division and 103rd overall. Great race Alicia!

A huge congratulations to Alicia Allen for winning a highly competitive National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship! This fellowship provides three years financial support and travel opportunities for graduate students to research abroad. Good job, Alicia!
Undergrads Karl Solomon and Robert Xu competed in the UT BMES Robotics Design Competition. Their team programmed a robot made from Legos that can locate and expose a model tumor in a gel. The contest is open to all engineering departments. All their hard work paid off, and their team won 1st place! Congratulations Karl and Robert!
The Zoldan Group attended a conversation with Dr. Robert Langer hosted by the Cockrell School of Engineering Innovation Center. Dr. Zoldan did her postdoctoral research in the Langer lab at MIT.
